Well it has been quite a while and I have been busy. there was no episode at the end of May or June so I thought I'd make up for it by having this new episode be THREE TIMES AS LONG. Three times the fun, three times the laughs, three times the downloading wait time (sorry).
Also this episode has a few things that previous episodes did not. some of the material is more shock value than funny (including the songs) and there are a few preachy rants, and it ends on a song with excessive language. So from time to time in the first few podcasts I would include a song by a fictional digital grindcore band called H8TR3DITY (yeah that's how I spelled it, pretty lame). the songs you heard came from an actual album that I recorded (all in one day) out of boredom. I was listening to a digital grind band called "cide projekt" that did instrumental covers of DxAx songs and I thought "this would probably still sound pretty good if they added vocals". I was also listening to Outbreak and Gay For Johnny Depp (who pride themselves on having the phrase "fuck you" in every 3rd song). These angry spiteful lyrics were also helpful inspiration.
And so I made a 12-song (but only 5 minute) EP that kind of sounded like what I wanted to hear. I printed a few copies on credit card size CDs and gave them to a few close friends. I used to listen to this album while taking a shit 'cause it was just the right length. Anyway, there's no reason to hold onto it any longer so I might as well put it up for free.

I am trying to find time to find time to get the new podcast done in time but I hit a bit of a snag when my laptop finally stopped working. I recently bought a new laptop and have spent the last little while reinstalling all of the programs necessary to make the podcast happen. But speaking of H8TR3DITY and my new laptop; I found it came equipped with a nifty movie editing program, and so I actually threw together a H8TR3DITY music video for the song Jaded Black Heart.

I have decided that in order to make my page look cool I need a bunch of adds for metal. Grindcore. So google adds does this thing where it looks at the content on your page and based on what words you use it determines what adds will sell. Death Metal. so for future posts i plan to randomly insert words like Extreme Metal, Blast Beats, Death Metal, because when I did that before i had a bunch of adds from Relapse Records on my site which in my opinion is fucking awesome. So Grindcore don't Black Metal worry Thrash if Hardcore some Technical Death posts Folk Metal don't Death/Grind make Century Media any Metal Blade sense.

also I might go back and change some tags on earlier posts.

In other news, I try to keep the Podcast at about a PG-13 rating, but last episode I recorded a song that had a bunch of swears that I ended up cutting and putting something else in it's place. But I still kind of like the song so I did a brief video of one of the vocals (sorry no harmony 'cause I'm lazy) and it's a little less jazzy sounding than the version I originally recorded, but still kind of sounds pretty funny. Black Metal.

Updates and stuff.

I finished the new podcast with the boom mic and it will be posted on Halloween night. It will not however have a Halloween theme. The only thing that I can remember right now about this episode is that it has another song by Black Vomit called "Obsessed With Infanticide".

Speaking of obsession, I started a Facebook page that I will update frequently with a bunch of songs and links to album downloads, cataloging my own musical obsession/addiction. It will mostly be metal so if you're into that click the "Like" button to see the updates on the "Home" page.

So, because this is supposed to be a personal blog I will give a brief update of stuff I've done in the last month:

-Made and ate a "Vegan" cookie for the first time and it was quite good. (banana oatmeal chocolate-chip)
-Saw Despised Icon preform for their very last time in Winnipeg
-Was the MC for the first annual Winnipeg skeptics conference called Skepticamp
-Started playing Fallout: New Vegas (the class I dropped to compensate for this was "The Philosophy of Art")
-The rest of the stuff I did this month was the usual: work, university, friends, Heavy Metal Monday etc.

Now that's what I call a blog post!

I don't post often: technical difficulties

So I have mostly been using this site as a place to upload the new podcasts without actually blogging. Fortunately, or rather unfortunately, I have something podcast related to blog about. Earlier today, while recording the new episode, the rather expensive vocal condenser microphone stopped working. I tested several things out, and it turns out that it is indeed the microphone itself that is the problem. so after almost 5 years of screaming/singing/talking into it, it has finally decided to stop being my friend. This could mean a few different things:

1. The next episode won't be uploaded until I find a new condenser mic that I like.
2. The next episode will have segments that have this odd feedback that you only get from performance mics.
3. The next episode will have lots of prerecorded filler that isn't as funny.

I am also going to try to see how this boom mic that I bought a long time ago works. I might have to record in a different room. anyways, first non-podcast update in a while and it is all bad news.

Well, well well... June was one crazy month and it seems like forever since I did a podcast, but it has only been the usual month-long wait. This episode contains an exclusive interview with fat black rapper Ice Cream Scoop as well as a song of his called "my girlfriend eats my poop". this is the kind of episode that I have been trying to do since I started and I somehow figured that I wouldn't fall into the right groove until I was about 6 months deep. Just letting you all know that the next episode should be available for download on Tuesday the 27th of April.
There is absolutely no reason for me not to just upload it now, other than to create some much needed "Hype".

I think this next episode will probably be better than the previous one at least in terms of funniness. This one will feel like an Oreo; the beginning and end are a little dry and crumbly, but the middle is pure creamy goodness.

I probably won't bother to upload any more episodes of Heavy Metal Mondays because that like 164 mb per episode. If anyone is by chance interested: I usually do the first Monday of every month so you can download them from ckuw.ca the last show I did was on April 5. They hold on to the episodes for six weeks, but every two weeks they downgrade the bite-rate that it's available in.

Perhaps one day I may do a prerecorded show with a bunch of jokes and silliness, and I may decide to upload that, but I only put the first couple up because that was the first time I hosted a radio show and was all excited and shit. Maybe if it was an hour-long call-in show where i say intentionally crazy ideas and then argue with people i would put it up. But I doubt anyone gives two shits about me doing what is essentially a personal 3 hour play list.

Hey, I haven't been able to work on the next podcast for the last month because I have only had about an hour of alone time in the last month. That hour, or rather 53 minutes was spent today creating only about 3 and a half minutes of episode 2. And that was tightly scripted stuff to, so one can see how much time is spent/wasted if I just try to come up with stuff in the studio. I'll probably do another episode of Heavy Metal Monday for CKUW before I get a chance to finish the next Paul Nordin Podcast.
Sorry about that. I would like to take this time to thank all the people that told me that they liked the first one and were hoping to hear the next one soon. I'll try to make up for it. My goal is to do between 10-12 episodes a year, hopefully 12.

Hey i did another episode of Heavy Metal Monday for CKUW 95.9 FM. This might be the fastest I've ever uploaded something because I only finished the show 2 and a half hours ago. Keep in mind that the thing that they use to record these shows has a tendency to shift the audio from left to right, so if you are listening on headphone you may want to consider using a player that has the option to play in mono. For some reason this episode has a lot of death metal.

I finally did one of these in December and converted it to an mp3 for download. I kept it relatively short because there is only so much one can handle of me. One thing that I am going to try to do as I make these podcasts is keep them all at a whole number of minutes; this one is 10 minutes exactly and no seconds. The opening theme was preformed by my friend Curtis. I think I'll call this episode "Abortion Party"

Heavy Metal Monday episode 1

So I did this show on ckuw95.9 on November 16 (or 17th I suppose because it was after midnight) and I haven't uploaded it until now, sorry. The audio quality that they use to record does some funny things in stereo, if you listen to this you might want to do so on a player that has the option to play it in mono. The very first song was a band called "evil survives" and I never mention this in the broadcast. Also I was still getting a hang of the control board so there are some moments with dead air. over all I give myself a C.

So I didn't get that interview with the Berzerker which kind of bummed me out. It was all set up and I was essentially late because I could not understand the lead singer's thick Australian accent. I thought he said some thing like "after obituary plays" when he actually said "half-hour, we can't stay" so i waited through the hour-long Obituary set to find out that they had left half an hour after I had last talked to them. So I didn't get the interview for Stylus but I did throw together a couple of CD reviews that they ended up publishing, I might post them when I find were I saved the file.
I finished all my tests and workshops and CRTC training stuff for 95.9 FM. They want me to sit in on an episode of Heavy Metal Mondays to get a feel for it before I start hosting. Hopefully I will begin sometime between mid or late November.

Bad news and good news

greetings humans. So I have a bit of bad news; I probably won't be able to take randomly dialed phone calls because A: I can not find the type of equipment I need (and I NEED it to be high-quality, I just do) and B: I'm getting word that it may be illegal in Manitoba. So that really sucks and I have delayed time working on the podcast because I was waiting on finding this equipment. Sorry about that.

A bit of Good news though: I may be hosting a 3-hour radio program for station 95.9 called "metal Monday" it starts at (get this) 2 minutes to midnight. I will probably have to play the songs that they tell me to but I will get to improvise some craziness in-between songs. Plus I like metal so now I don't have to do two podcasts. Maybe I can find a way to upload a recording of Metal Monday to this site so that people not living in the Winnipeg area can hear it.

Yes I still do plan on doing a podcast however it may take some more planing then I had originally thought. I am going to try to get an interview with the band "The Berzerker" seeing as they are coming to town soon. I might include the interview in the podcast, if not then I will get it published in Stylus Magazine for the October/November issue.

The search continues

Wow, it's been a month since I last updated. Sorry the laziness kicked in full-force and this became one of those sights that never updates.
Anyways The theme song is done (I might need to redo the drums but that's besides the point.) and I have since been searching for a device that will record the incoming audio on my cellphone and my own voice on separate tracks. I have searched all of the electronic stores and none seem to have what I'm looking for. I guess it would be kind of like a bluetooth headset that records on the actual headset. I even checked a few stores in the northern states, and now I am beginging to wonder if what I'm looking for is illegal. I suppose I could just put my cell on speaker phone and use a condencer mic in a closed area but that might not sound too great.
I'll figure something out.

this isn't much of a post but:
I should be recording the theme song for the podcast tomorrow. I will try to make it as catchy and enjoyable to listen to. I want to make it really good because as the old saying goes: "Nobody wants to see your stupid show... so make it easier for them."
This saying applies to everything; television, music, magic acts, even weddings. "Nobody wants to see your stupid wedding." so make it easier for people by dressing up nice, having pretty flowers, good food and dancing.

More Podcast Ideas and a Pic

At work today I came up with an interesting idea for the podcast. Seeing as most radio shows allow people to call in and discuss their opinions on topical items it would be fun if that could be done on a podcast. The only problem is that podcasts are prerecorded so the listener would not be able to discuss the topic.
Or would they? what if I called random numbers and got people to discuss the week's topic with me. It would be the only radio show that calls it's listeners. And this would allow me to choose only the best calls to be featured in the show. also it would be fun for the listeners; how many times has a friend said to you "hey I was on the radio last night, did anybody hear me?" no one answers, and there is a sadness because they missed it. Not only did they not hear the broadcast but now they never will... with this podcast that will never happen, they can always tell their friends about the site and which episode they are featured on, and their friends can check it out any time that they get around to it. I might even include their names (with permission) in the shows' description so that it may be easier.
Well, other than that work pretty much sucked today; I think I may have fractured my right tibia but I'm not sure, here is a picture I drew to explain:

The First Post is Allways the Hardest

As I write this I realize that I will probably spend too much time on it; second guessing, re-wording and whatnot. The point is I will probably be very tired before I finish but it is important to establish what I will probably end up doing on this blogspot.
FIRST AND FOREMOST: I really want to do a podcast. I don't know if I will be able to include music from other bands or not, or if I should keep that separate. I know that I want to actually make it a weekly thing though, as hard as that may be. I would like it to include a music review hosted by a character I've named Nigel Organ-flapper, as well as a continuing detective story with a walking bass line in the background during. Also I would like to include one or more of my own songs every now and then, even if they suck.
SECOND: In keeping with the music theme I would like to upload some of my favorite albums making them available for download as well as where they can be purchased of course. In order to do this I will probably have to make a mediafire account which I will hopefully get to tomorrow.
THIRD: Something funny. hopefully I can make drawings or something that look really bizarre but I don't have a scanner so they might have to be done in paint or something, or maybe I will find pictures and draw on top of them. I will try to get something started soon.

I have work tomorrow morning and that should be more than enough time to be so bored out of my mind that I come up with something genius. (crossing my fingers... before I stick them up a camel's bum)
